Penn LALSA's Annual Conference
Our annual conference is a rich part of LALSA's tradition at Penn Law. Beginning in 1995, LALSA began hosting "La Gran Fiesta," a dance party in Silverman Hall. A few years later, we added an academic component to the event, bringing prominent attorneys and scholars to campus to discuss issues pertinent to the Latino community.
The conference is often highlighted by the Keynote Dinner, a special event where we have heard from speakers like Dan Restrepo (President Obama's Senior Advisor on Latin America), Raul Reyes (a prominent Latino journalist and lawyer who has appeared in The New York Times and on MSNBC), and Wifredo Ferrer (a Penn Law 1990 alumnus and the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida).
The conference and La Gran Fiesta are planned entirely by our student membership in cooperation with Penn Law. Our Conference Committee begins planning the conference during the fall semester, and the event takes place in late spring semester. The Conference Committee works closely with law firms and other organizations across the country to raise funds for sponsorship. In March 2020 the Annual Conference and La Gran Fiesta were cancelled due to COVID-19, but in 2021 and 2022 we have been proud to host the Annual Conference via Zoom, allowing more participants to join us from beyond the Penn community.
