Student Mentoring

LALSA Familias Program

Penn Law takes pride in its collegial atmosphere. LALSA furthers this ideal through a hands-on mentorship program designed to encourage LALSA 2Ls and 3Ls to build close relationships with 1Ls and LLMs.

1Ls are matched with upperclassmen based on a number of expressed interests, and once matched, the mentors remain in touch with their 1L mentees throughout the first year to help with any questions or concerns about preparing for classes, studying for exams, looking for 1L jobs, preparing for OCI, and deciding what classes to take each semester.  Often, the relationships built in familias last long past the school year.

Familias all hold welcome events, and then periodically meet throughout the year. Upperclassmen also reach out to their mentees regularly to offer help and support. In 2017, LALSA will hold its first annual Familias Field Day, where familias will compete in Olympics-style events with food and fun.
