Information for Prospective or Admitted Students

The University of Pennsylvania’s Latin American Law Students Association looks forward to welcoming you into our family. Penn Law LALSA is one of the most active student groups on campus, hosting social, cultural, and service events that not only foster a strong sense of community, but allow us to share our vibrant and unique cultures with our fellow Penn Law classmates.

SERVICE

Each year, LALSA participates in a variety of school-sponsored activities that allow its members to give back to the local community. LALSA also lends its support to student pro bono projects such as the Immigrant Rights Project, and participates in a number of pro bono activities. LALSA maintains strong ties to the other Latino organizations on the greater Penn campus and in Philadelphia. By collaborating with Penn’s La Casa Latina, the Intercultural Center, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania, our students can connect to the large and diverse Latino student body in the University, as well as to Latino attorneys locally, regionally, and nationally - offering even more opportunities to network, learn, and serve the Latino community.

SUPPORT

In addition, LALSA sponsors academic information sessions to help first-year students acclimate to their new surroundings. LALSA schedules events throughout the year, hosting job and exam preparation sessions for new students. Each LALSA 1L is also paired with a 2L or 3L mentor before arriving to campus to ease the transition to law school and the city.

CELEBRATION

Each year, LALSA hosts potlucks, happy hours, a traditional pig roast, and a fall party in the law school’s courtyard. Each academic year culminates in LALSA’s widely anticipated annual conference, La Gran Fiesta. LALSA hosts the conference to address issues that are relevant to the Latino community; in the past we have examined relevant topics such as race, identity, and immigration. It is an opportunity to highlight our most successful and prominent Latinas/os within the legal profession. In addition, our conference ends each year with one of the law school’s most popular parties, which takes place in the law school’s very own Silverman Hall. We welcome you, the newest member of the Penn Law community, to join us in exploring relevant issues and celebrating Latinos’ ever-increasing contributions to legal and social

excellence at this year’s conference in April.
