LALSA’S ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Every year, LALSA organizes and hosts a conference that examines a current legal issue affecting the Latino community. Last year’s theme was “Latinos At-Home and Abroad,” which included a panel session, banquet dinner, and keynote speaker. Experienced panelists spoke about efforts to ensure legal protections for immigrants and migrant workers in the United States and ways to incorporate immigrant and refugee rights in the international context. The keynote speaker from the International Criminal Court spoke about the role of the ICC in Latin America.

LALSA BAKE SALES

LALSA aims to promote its presence at Penn Law and encourage students to learn more about our organization through weekly bake sales. Students have the opportunity to stop by for delicious desserts and to hear about upcoming LALSA events.

FALSA

On October 15th, LALSA hosted its annual fall semester festival, FALSA, to celebrate Latino heritage month. During this event, students enjoyed authentic food, participated in salsa dance lessons, and relaxed with friends.

Bowling

LALSA is committed to developing relationships with other graduate student groups on Penn’s campus. In November, LALSA hosted a bowling event with WHAMBA (the Hispanic students at the Wharton Business School), where students from both schools enjoyed an evening of bowling and had a chance to meet new people.

Potluck

One of LALSA’s primary objectives is to provide academic support and mentoring for law students. On October 30th, LALSA hosted a potluck for first-year law students to meet upperclassmen and ask questions about courses, summer jobs, and law school in general.

Happy hour

During 1L Orientation, LALSA hosted a happy hour for current LALSA members to meet new students and to talk to 1Ls about upcoming LALSA activities.

Exam panel

Throughout the year, LALSA cosponsors several events with the affinity groups at Penn Law in order to provide academic support and professional development to law students. Specifically, LALSA hosts study breaks during exam period and we have cosponsored “study skills” panels, where 2L and 3L students talk about their experiences preparing for class, reading cases, and studying for exams. Also, LALSA has hosted a “summer job” panel, where students discussed their strategies for finding a summer job.
