LALSA 2019 Conference

January 19 & 20, 2017 at the University of Pennsylvania Law School

Top practitioners from Philadelphia and across the country gathered to analyze what recent Supreme Court decisions on immigration mean for recent immigrants, the law, and the legal profession.

The January 19th kickoff featured the Philadelphia premiere of Farewell Ferris Wheel, a film that explores the $500 million carnival industry's reliance on the controversial H-2B visa to recruit migrant workers from Mexico each summer. The screening, offered an opportunity to see the film in advance of its PBS broadcast later in the year, and was followed by a panel discussion featuring the film's directors, advocates, and others with industry experience.

January 20th featured two panels. The first panel addressed the recent Supreme Court case of United States v. Texas and its fallout. The second panel explored the current legal challenges that the LGBT+ immigrant community experience.

This year's first panel was co-sponsored by the Penn Law Immigrant Rights Project, and the second panel was co-sponsored by Penn Law Lambda.
